If your partner has had a bad and stressful day, they may have been looking forward to spending time with you afterwards. If you suddenly announce that you are going out, they may lash out or react badly.
Although it’s healthy to take time out for yourself, it can be helpful to give your partner advance notice of that. That way, they won’t be caught off guard or react in a way that’s unhealthy. If they aren’t expecting to see you that night, they won’t be upset when they don’t.
